Luqira

AI live commerce in Taiwan

Facebook is a primary selling surface here, not a legacy one. What the platforms allow, and the two large local marketplaces Luqira does not reach.

A market where buying from a live video is ordinary rather than novel, and where the selling happens on Facebook far more than the rest of Asia would predict. What the platforms allow, and the two large local marketplaces Luqira does not reach.

Why Taiwan does not look like the rest of Asia

Two things make this market its own case.

Facebook is a primary selling surface, not a legacy one. In most of Asia live commerce moved to marketplace apps and short-video platforms. In Taiwan a large share of live selling stayed on Facebook, alongside Shopee and YouTube, and it stayed there because that is where the buyers and the seller communities already were. Any plan built on the assumption that Facebook is a top-of-funnel channel will be wrong here.

The audience is already converted to the format. Buying from a live video is a normal way to shop rather than something a seller has to introduce. That removes the argument used in Europe and the US — that you are educating a market — and leaves the plainer one: your channel is either live when someone wants to buy, or it is not.

The numbers, and what we will not claim

We do not have a Taiwanese data post with attributed figures the way Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Thailand do, and we are not going to fill that gap with a market-research estimate quoted from an aggregator.

What we will say is the shape rather than the size: third-party estimates put live video buying in Taiwan at a majority of internet users, spread across Facebook, YouTube and Shopee, and Taiwanese ecommerce concentrated on Shopee, momo and PChome. Treat those as orientation and verify them against a source you trust before they enter a business case. Regional figures with full attribution are in the data post:

Livestream commerce data in 2026, and which numbers survive a second look

What the platforms allow

  • Facebook is a Luqira destination and, unusually for Asia, one of the main ones here. Native Live Shopping was retired in 2022, so the motion is comments, links and off-platform checkout rather than in-stream purchase — which makes comment handling the whole game on this surface. Full detail: Facebook.
  • Shopee is a Luqira destination and permits AI livestreams for approved sellers only: apply, wait for the decision, and do not run one before approval lands. Six content rules follow, including a label on the stream and one AI host per account. Full detail: Shopee.
  • YouTube Live is a Luqira destination and asks for disclosure rather than permission. Full detail: YouTube Live.
  • TikTok is a Luqira destination. TikTok Shop's published prohibition on AI-generated voices in promotional LIVEs states its own scope as the United States; we have found no equivalent published rule for Taiwan and will not infer one in either direction. Full detail: TikTok Shop.
  • momo, PChome and LINE are not Luqira destinations. momo and PChome are two of the three largest ecommerce platforms in this market, and LINE is a significant social surface here. If your business runs through them, that gap is the comparison, and the strength of the Facebook and Shopee coverage does not offset it. Check this before anything else on this page.

Where an AI host earns its hours here

  • Facebook comment volume. A busy Taiwanese Facebook live session generates more questions than a host can answer while also presenting, and the ones that go unanswered are the ones that would have converted. This is the single clearest fit in this market.
  • The hours nobody staffs, on a catalogue already selling during the day.
  • Facebook, Shopee and YouTube at once, each with its own comment thread answered by the same agent, instead of choosing which surface gets the good hour.
  • Traditional Chinese as the working language, alongside cross-border selling into other markets in their own languages from the same setup. The voice models cover 85+ output languages trained in a single run.

What we would tell a Taiwanese seller to do first

  1. Check whether momo or PChome carry your business. If they do, this is the wrong tool and you should know that in the first five minutes rather than the third meeting.
  2. Apply to Shopee for AI livestream approval. It is the destination with a clear, documented yes.
  3. Test on Facebook first, because that is where the comment volume is and where an agent that answers every question is most obviously worth more than one that answers most of them.
  4. Start in a slot you do not currently stream, so the result is revenue that did not exist rather than revenue moved.
